Jay-Z's 'Empire State Of Mind' To Replace 'New York, New York' At Belmont Stakes

NYRA official calls it 'the quintessential 21st century theme song for New York City.'
In his massive hit Empire State of Mind, Jay-Z raps that he's "the new Sinatra." And it turns out he wasn't joking.
During Saturday's 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes, "Empire" will be played as the horses are brought out onto the race track, replacing Sinatra's classic "New York, New York," according to a spokesperson for the New York Racing Association.
"[It's] the quintessential 21st century theme song for New York City," an NYRA official told The Associated Press.
A spokesperson for the NYRA confirmed the change to MTV News.
"New York, New York," (or, as it's actually called, "Theme From 'New York, New York,' ") is most closely associated with Sinatra, though it was actually written for — and first recorded by — Liza Minnelli for the 1977 Martin Scorsese film of the same name. Sinatra recorded it for his 1980 album Trilogy: Past, Present And Future, and it became the last of his many signature numbers.
Lady Gaga’s mother looks like Madonna

The 'Paparazzi’ singer – who has become a fashion, music and gay icon since she rose to fame last year – is often compared to the 51-year-old pop star but insists their physical resemblance is purely because her mum Cynthia Bisset has an uncanny resemblance to the Queen of Pop.
She explained to US chat show host Larry King: "We're compared to each other, whether we're blonde, brunette, black, white, straight, gay. But on another level, it's kind of funny, because my mother actually looks sort of like Madonna. And the older I've gotten, I look more and more like my mother. So sometimes I just want to say, it's not my fault that I look like her."
The 24-year-old star recently admitted her parents always believed she was 'different' from her peers but supported her because of her ambition.

U2 may play at the Glastonbury festival next year after having to cancel their June 25 headline slot for this year, a spokesperson for the event has said.
Gorillaz have replaced U2 on the bill after Bono required emergency back surgery, and now a spokesperson for the festival has told the Irish Post that we shouldn't be too surprised if they come back next year instead.
"They've never played here before and we're very disappointed they can't perform," the spokesperson explained, "but they could well be back next year."
As well as Gorillaz, Muse and Stevie Wonder are set to play headline slots at the sold-out Somerset event.

Katy Perry is hoping MTV Movie Awards viewers enjoy her new single, California Gurls, as much as fiancé Russell Brand does. Not only will she have Snoop Dogg onstage with her, but she also has plans to hit the stage nude.
That's right, folks: no clothes!
"I think that this performance will be really Californian," she told MTV News about Sunday's big performance. "I will be naked," she joked. "There will be tons of naked girls. Listen: You gotta tune in, because yours truly, Katy Perry, will be naked. That's the only reason to watch."
